The school comes to you.

We're a mobile kite school: the gear goes in the car. On weekdays I teach at Manguinhos, on weekends at Camburi, and at Vila Velha depending on the wind. I'll send the pin on WhatsApp.

My name is Max, originally from Belgium. My story started in Switzerland, where I lived for five years working as a ski instructor—that’s where I first fell in love with action sports. After moving back home, I learned to kitesurf in Belgium and began teaching my first lessons. Eventually, my passion took me along the entire coastline from the North Sea down to the Atlantic, teaching across France, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

While the wind back home was great, I always craved warm weather and warm ocean water. That pulled me to Costa Rica, where I met my beautiful Brazilian wife. In September 2026, we welcomed our beautiful baby into the world! Since my wife is from Vitória, we decided to settle down right here. My dream is to build a vibrant surf and kite community and school here—a place where people of all ages can gather, enjoy time together, connect with nature and the ocean, and simply reset.

Beyond teaching on the water, I have a deep passion for filmmaking. I’ve shot films around the globe—from surf brands and boxing matches in Madison Square Garden to automotive commercials deep in the jungles of Costa Rica.

I bring that production experience directly into my kite lessons. Once you reach Level 3 (practicing the water start), I offer filmed session analysis. Not only does this give you an incredible video memory of your progression, but it’s also one of the fastest ways to learn. Seeing your technique on video alongside direct coaching feedback helps you fix mistakes quickly—it’s made a massive difference for my past students.

The wind

Wind from the northeast or east means lesson day. With the big kite you can learn from about 8 knots. Wind from the west blows out to sea, so no lessons that day. Not sure? Message me and I'll check.

Price

Simple.

R$350per hour · everything included

Most people take two hours at a time — that's one lesson, and about four of those gets you riding. No package to buy.

Come as a pair

R$175 each per hour. You share one kite — you ride a little less, but you learn a lot from watching.

The whole course

R$2.500 for 8 hours — four lessons, booked as one, 10% off. Most schools sell a 10-hour course; one-to-one, on a radio, on flat water, you need eight. We schedule each lesson as the wind allows.

Film it

+R$250 per session. Edited video of your lesson, with my voice on it.

Included

Kite, board, harness, helmet. A radio, so I can talk to you far from the beach. Ten years of teaching.

Pay

On the beach, cash or Pix. Nothing upfront.

Questions

Before you book.

I've never done any board sport. Can I do this?

Yes. Most of my students start from zero. Lesson one is on the sand, feet dry, learning to fly the kite. Nothing happens fast.

Do I need to be fit or strong?

No. The harness takes the pull, not your arms. I've taught 8-year-olds and an 82-year-old. If you can swim, you can learn.

What if there's no wind on my day?

Then we don't go — and you don't pay. I check the beach the morning of and message you. We just move it to the next good day.

Why only four lessons?

Espírito Santo has perfect spots to learn, and with ten years of teaching behind me I make it simple, safe and fun. Four lessons of two hours is usually enough. Some need three, some six. You book one at a time.

Is it safe?

Kites today have a safety release you can pull one-handed. I teach it before anything else. Helmet on, and I'm on the radio the whole time.
